Music Column: Geese Channels Frog On 2025 Album, Wednesday Cites Tuesday as Major Inspiration

welcome to the kumquat’s new music column. that’s right, this white woman with a when the pawn… tattoo is here to tell you what you missed on the scene this past year.

2025 brought us some absolute modern classics. ex-boyfriends everywhere would not shut up about one album and one album only: geese’s “getting killed.” listen, i’m not here to judge. i think they really hit their stride. to be honest, it kinda sounded similar to frog’s 2019 lp “count bateman.” not sure how to explain this connection, you just sort of have to get the vibe.

go one step nicher and you’ll find that wednesday got their moment to shine on their newest album “bleeds.” never heard of it? let’s work on that misogyny, my goat. according to pitchfork, wednesday took inspiration from 90’s indie band tuesday for this album. i personally feel that there’s some inspiration from man head’s 1982 “lord head,” and even brazilian artist gentile figueroa’s late-70s endeavor “aguas.” some samples on “bleeds” remind me so much of this analog recording of an old viennese music box in my grandpa’s attic. too niche for you? sorry, i get that a lot.
