If These Walls Could Talk: The Ethical Implication of The Posting Ban

Issue 68 | December 2024

If you've noticed that campus has looked poster-less recently, well, that's because P-Safe has a new posting ban (actually). However, despite outrage from a notable satire newspaper, they apparently have a good reason for this censorship of free speech: the walls don't like having posters taped to them. In fact, says P-Safe Hinson, the Keck Brick Wall complained that papers of any kind, "especially the ugly orange ones," are painful and unflattering.

Since no student has ever reported hearing the walls talk (while sober, that is) concerns have been raised, but no investigation has been conducted.

Furthermore, when one Kumquat special correspondent looked into P-Safe's claims and tried to place a poster on one of Keck's outer walls, Hinson immediately materialized behind them with a "Vine boom sound effect." He then directed them to put the poster on one of the art support structures. When asked what an "art support structure" entailed, Hinson cackled maniacally, shrugged, and disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Still, the university is urging students to take others' feelings into consideration, even if they're inanimate objects. Our campus has something to say! It begs the question: what if your voice was being taken away? Oh wait...
